Creating a Culture of Reading for Pleasure in Schools: Why It Matters and How to Encourage It
Ideas Hive At the beginning of a new school year, as teachers, we’re looking for ways to inspire children to love learning and develop strong
Good luck to Year 6 this week, especially with the reading test, which I’m sure most would agree is particularly challenging in terms of its requirements for reading stamina, vocabulary decoding, inference and summary.
If you’re looking for tips to help prepare for the KS2 reading SATs I would highly recommend this article.
However, if you’re wondering how to consolidate children’s reading skills post-SATs then we have some engaging and hands on Year 6 post SATs activities for you here.
All that exam practise can sometimes dampen reading enjoyment, so why not dip into some amazing texts in the summer term to rekindle your children’s love of reading?
‘Secrets of Birds & Bone’ by bestselling author, Kiran Millwood Hargrave is a mystery page turner, which our Year 6s loved.
After all their hard work, our children deserve to get lost in some really fun lessons that showcase the best literature out there. What’s more, our Year 6 teachers deserve a break from rigorous planning. Our resources are ready to go with teaching PowerPoints, collaborative talk-based activities and printable text extracts.
Send them off to secondary school inspired by a wider range of books and a passion for reading.
Books for Topics have a great set of posters further encouraging children to ‘branch out’ and try new books. You can find the posters HERE.
Happy summer term all! Nearly there!
