The Land of Roar by Jenny McLachlan is a fun and fast-paced fantasy story for lower KS2, especially Year 4. It follows 11-year-old twins, Arthur and Rose. As children, they invented a magical world called Roar in their Grandad’s attic. Roar was full of dragons, mermaids, flying islands, and a scary villain named Crowky.
Now they’re older. Rose wants to forget Roar, but Arthur still remembers. When Grandad disappears in the attic, Arthur finds himself back in Roar and realises it isn’t just a game. Roar is real. It’s in danger. Arthur must return, face Crowky, and convince Rose to help him save their Grandad.
