Lesson Structure: Suggested three 30-minute sessions Introduction/Whole Class Discussion: Introduce the book, author, and key vocabulary. Teacher reads the extract aloud, modelling fluency, thinking aloud and pausing at key points to spark class discussion. Exploration/Partner Talk: Students recap and re-read part of the text to build fluency. Work in pairs to answer comprehension questions covering retrieval, inference, the effect of language etc. to promote discussion and deepen understanding. Independent Task: Students complete an independent task based on a reading domain, beginning with a modelled example.
