Lesson 1
Firstly, make connections with what the children already know about zebras. Pre-teach vocabulary to maximise engagement with the poem. Read the poem together and then give children time to respond to activity cards.
Lesson 2
Building on the previous lesson, children use given images to help them to work out the meaning behind each metaphor. Then children record any clues in a table showing what they think each clue suggests. If children have time, give them the opportunity to pick their own season and describe it using metaphors.
Lesson 3
Read the next poem and give the children time to consider what they like, what questions they may have, any tricky words they can identify and any connections they have made.
